Indirect Retention Revisited: Risks, Benefits and Paradigm-shift in Removable Partial Dentures

چکیده
The clinical success of removable partial denture (RPD) relies on the widely stablished biomechanical principles of retention, stability and support. In contemporary approaches, however, open prosthetic designs with minimal oral tissues coverage have been advocated. Longstanding conflicting opinions regarding the indirect retention concept have arisen, although robust scientific evidence is still scarce. To shed some light on this issue, the current work aimed at in vitro analyzing the influence of indirect retainers in the forces transmitted to abutment teeth of a unilateral distal extension mandibular RPD.

Review of Implant Support for the Distal Extension Removable Partial Dentures
Partially edentulous patients with missing premolars and molars have been conventionally rehabilitated using the free-end removable partial dentures (RPDs). With the advancements in implant dentistry, the benefits of implant-retained/supported mandibular implant overdentures relative to conventional mandibular dentures with bilateral extensions (Class I Kennedy) have now been extensively invest...
متن کاملCase Report: Implant-Supported Removable Partial Denture In A Mandibular Kennedy CL II: A Clinical Report
Abstract The implant-supported removable partial dentures should be an alternative to conventional removable partial dentures and implant-supported fixed partial prostheses when the implant’s insertion is confined by bone height and thickness. Placing a single implant in the posterior region would modify the Kennedy Class II configuration to a Kennedy Class III and increase the stability a...
متن کاملThe Use of Telescopic Crowns in Removable Partial Denture Treatment for Patients with Severe Periodontal Disease: Two Patient Case History Reports.
Two patient case histories are described as examples of treatment of severe periodontitis in severely compromised partial dentitions. Management consisted of periodontal treatment and telescopic crown support for removable partial dentures with friction pin retention.
متن کاملImplants in conjunction with removable partial dentures: a literature review.
Although the benefits of implant-borne removable prostheses are readily apparent for the fully edentulous patient and have been well documented, there is a paucity of studies concerning the combination of implants with removable partial dentures in partially edentulous patients. The aim of this article is to review the literature regarding implants with removable partial dentures and evaluate t...

AIM To investigate the importance of attachment types on the retention loss of extracoronal attachment-retained removable partial dentures depending on the usage period. MATERIALS AND METHODS In order to observe the retention loss of 5 different attachments (OT Strategy, OT Strategy-metal protected, Vario-stud-snap and Vario-soft 3 and ERA-RV) over time, attachment-retained partial dentures r...
